Cristiano Ronaldo: league, cups, Portugal… April 2027, the possible date for 1,000 goals

Cristiano Ronaldo could enter spring 2027 just 15 goals short of 1,000 career goals. Indeed, Al-Nassr’s schedule, cup competitions and Portugal’s upcoming international windows could enable him to reach that milestone as early as the second half of April, if he maintains his current efficiency.

The countdown is on. On October 29, 2026, Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick in Al-Nassr’s 5-3 victory over Al-Kholood in the Saudi league. That performance took his official career tally to 985 goals, leaving him 15 goals short of a symbolic milestone. The Portuguese forward still has several months of competition to achieve this objective. The Saudi league represents his main source of opportunities, but cup matches, the AFC Champions League and potential appearances for Portugal could accelerate his progress.

25 matches to score the 15 goals remaining

Based on eight goals in 15 appearances since the start of the season, Ronaldo has a rate of 0.53 goals per match. If he maintains that pace, he would need approximately 28 more matches to score the 15 goals separating him from his thousandth.

This calculation provides an initial benchmark. It does not mean that Ronaldo will necessarily score in his 28th appearance. Another hat-trick could bring the date forward by several matches, while a run of games without a goal could push it back.

The projection must therefore combine this scoring average with the schedule that is actually available.

Al-Nassr: around 20 matches before the second half of April

Al-Nassr’s published schedule includes several league fixtures between November 2026 and April 2027. After the November and December matches, the club is due to return to competition in February, before a run of league matches in March and April. In total, 24 club matches are scheduled between November 2 and April 22 in the currently available calendar, including the league, AFC Champions League, King’s Cup and Super Cup matches listed for that period. This tally could change depending on schedule adjustments and qualification in knockout competitions.

The Saudi league notably has six matches scheduled in April: on the 2nd, 8th, 15th, 18th, 22nd and 29th. Al-Nassr could also play additional matches in the AFC Champions League, whose knockout rounds continue in the spring if the club qualifies. Its run in the King’s Cup could also add further appearances.

These competitions count toward the projection, but a distinction must be made between matches already scheduled and fixtures dependent on qualification.

Portugal could bring the date closer

International matches are another element of the calculation. Assuming Ronaldo is absent during the November window, his next opportunities with Portugal would come in March 2027, followed by June. The March window could offer two additional matches. If Ronaldo plays in both, they would be added to his scheduled appearances with Al-Nassr. Potential matches in June could also contribute to his tally, but they cannot bring forward a date that falls in April.

Caution is also required regarding the Portuguese player’s participation. His presence will depend on a potential call-up, his fitness and the coach’s decisions. International matches are therefore included in the scenario as possibilities, not guaranteed appearances.

Second half of April 2027: the central scenario

The calculation makes it possible to establish an initial timeframe. If Ronaldo plays in the matches scheduled with Al-Nassr through April 18 and also takes part in two Portugal matches in March, he could reach around 28 additional appearances around that date.

At a constant average of 0.53 goals per match, that number of appearances would correspond to the 15 goals he is missing. The second half of April 2027 therefore appears to be a plausible period for Cristiano Ronaldo’s thousandth goal.

However, this estimate is based on several assumptions: regular participation in club matches, two international appearances in March and an attacking efficiency close to his current ratio. Additional cup rounds could change the number of opportunities available. An absence or a drop in output would, conversely, push the date back.

The second half of April is a period to watch. The matches scheduled for April 18, 22 and 29 could in particular become important dates if his tally is then approaching 1,000 goals. But it would be risky to identify a specific match at this stage.

At 985 goals on October 29, 2026, Cristiano Ronaldo is just 15 goals short of a major milestone in his career. With the league, cups and national team all in the picture, April 2027 is shaping up as a credible timeframe. The number of goals he scores over the coming months will show whether the Portuguese player can stick to this schedule or will have to extend his pursuit of 1,000 goals into May.
