CAF: Samson Adamu confirmed as permanent general secretary
Nigerian Samson Adamu has reportedly been confirmed as permanent general secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), according to Nigerian media outlet Savid News. This information has yet to be officially confirmed by the governing body of African football.
Samson Adamu could take a new step in his career within the Confederation of African Football. Until now the acting general secretary, the Nigerian official would now be the permanent holder of the position, which he has occupied since the departure of Véron Mosengo-Omba in March 2026.
At this stage, no official CAF announcement confirming this permanent appointment has been found in the sources consulted. The organisation’s website continues to list Adamu as acting general secretary.
An expected appointment after Mosengo-Omba’s departure
On 29 March 2026, Samson Adamu was appointed to serve as acting head of the CAF general secretariat following the departure of Véron Mosengo-Omba, who had held the position for more than five years. The organisation had then specified that a process would be launched to appoint a permanent successor.
Before this interim appointment, Adamu held the position of CAF director of tournaments and events. He notably took part in coordinating continental competitions and the operations related to their organisation.
A major challenge for the administration of African football
If his permanent appointment is officially confirmed, the Nigerian will take lasting charge of CAF’s administration. The general secretary plays a central role in the organisation’s day-to-day operations, particularly in implementing the decisions of its governing bodies and coordinating administrative activities.
