Alejandro Baldé was left out by Hansi Flick during FC Barcelona’s emphatic 5-0 win over Elche. The German manager explained that this decision was linked to the many questions currently surrounding the left-back’s future.

“A lot is going through his mind”

A product of La Masia, Alejandro Baldé has been with FC Barcelona since 2011. At 22, the defender has already made 168 first-team appearances, scoring three goals and providing 21 assists. However, his future has become uncertain. According to several media outlets, Baldé is considering a move away despite having two years left on his contract with the Catalan club.

Given this situation, Hansi Flick decided not to include the player in his squad against Elche. The German coach did, however, assure that he had never asked Baldé to leave Barça.

No, I didn’t ask him to leave. I sensed this morning that something wasn’t right. I told him it would be better for him to clear his head, to get his thoughts in order, and that we could talk again tomorrow. He agreed, because a lot is going through his mind.

Manchester United monitoring the situation

The interest from Manchester United adds another layer to the story. Baldé could be an exciting option for the English club, while his future at Barcelona now appears wide open.

No final decision has been announced, however. The upcoming discussions between the player, his entourage, and the Catalan club could prove decisive.
