FC Barcelona: Anthony Gordon on cloud nine after his debut
After a solid showing in pre-season friendlies, Anthony Gordon started on the bench against Elche this Sunday for FC Barcelona's first official match of the season. The new number 17 for the Blaugrana needed just 25 minutes to silence any doubts, playing a starring role in Barcelona’s emphatic 5-0 display.
Coming on in the 65th minute, the Englishman immediately stood out with his remarkable unselfishness, providing two assists in just five minutes. The first went to Raphinha with his very first touch, and the second to Fermín López—even though he could have easily netted his own debut goal for the Catalans. It was a dream debut, and Gordon was clearly savoring the moment at the final whistle.
"It was a superb performance, a perfect debut: five goals scored, none conceded. I'm really happy. We also played beautiful football and scored some fantastic goals. The defenders were excellent right to the end." he said.
Anthony Gordon also highlighted how easily he’s adapted to the squad, something already visible on the pitch: "My debut was a real dream. Barcelona and the city are incredible! The people are so friendly, and everyone in the team has welcomed me so well. I’ve felt great since I arrived. I already feel at home—the city is awesome, the people are friendly... I'll settle in even more as I spend more time here."
