Substituted during Barça's demolition of Elche, Lamine Yamal kept a very closed expression both on the bench and as he left the stadium.

FC Barcelona kicked off their season in style, crushing Elche 5-0 on Sunday at the Martínez Valero stadium. During this dominant performance, Lamine Yamal remained rather quiet on the attacking front. The 2026 World Champion failed to score or provide an assist before being replaced by Hansi Flick in the 65th minute.

A reaction tough to interpret

Captured on camera on the bench after coming off, the blaugrana number 10 looked particularly upset. According to footage shared on social media, the winger also left the stadium with his face closed off, despite his team's emphatic win over Elche.

However, it's impossible to say for sure that this attitude was aimed directly at his manager. Lamine Yamal could just as easily have been frustrated with his own performance and disappointed not to have had more time to make a decisive impact. Neither the player nor Hansi Flick have made any statements to clarify the situation.

Athletic Club as the first chance to bounce back

After this discreet first outing, the Spanish international will be eager to quickly rediscover his best form. Last season, he netted 16 goals and provided 12 assists in LaLiga. These performances earned him the title of the league's best player.

Lamine Yamal will have his first opportunity to respond on the pitch this Thursday, when Athletic Club visits Spotify Camp Nou.
