Elche 0 – 5 Barça: Catalan festival and major frustration for Lamine Yamal
FC Barcelona got their season off to a flying start, thrashing Elche thanks to Raphinha, Fermín López, and double assist-provider Anthony Gordon.
For their first appearance in this 2026-2027 La Liga campaign, FC Barcelona showed no signs of nerves away at Elche (5-0). After unveiling an especially attacking starting eleven, Hansi Flick watched his side dominate the match from start to finish.
Raphinha, captaining the side for this opener, broke the deadlock from the penalty spot before setting up Karim Adeyemi for the second. The Brazilian then doubled his tally after the break, finishing off a move started by Anthony Gordon.
Anthony Gordon dazzles, Lamine Yamal fumes
Making his official debut in the Catalan shirt, Gordon provided a second assist, setting up Fermín López for Barça’s fourth. The Spanish midfielder then bagged his own brace to push the score to 5-0, capping off a dominant Blaugrana display.
Lamine Yamal, however, didn’t get in on the attacking action. Substituted during the match, the Spanish prodigy was seen on the bench, visibly upset and jersey-less, clearly frustrated by his early exit.

The reasons behind his substitution haven’t been disclosed, and at this stage, there’s nothing to suggest it was disciplinary. Hansi Flick is expected to address the situation in the post-match press conference. After Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Espanyol, Barça have answered emphatically: the title race is on.
