Benin: The Geupards Could Face Argentina in a Friendly in October
The Guepards schedule could take a dream turn. After Matchdays 1 and 2 of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in September, they could face Argentina during the upcoming international break in October.
Negotiations Underway with the AFA
According to Argentine journalist Verónica Brunati, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) is in negotiations with its counterparts in Burkina Faso and Benin. The plan is to organize two friendly matches in Buenos Aires, on October 3 and 6, respectively.
Burkina Faso is scheduled to face Argentina on October 3. The Burkina Faso Football Federation had officially announced the matchup on September 4 before removing its Facebook post a few hours later. This does not call the match into question. According to the media outlet 3TV, the contract has been signed, and the two federations plan to announce it simultaneously. Pending official confirmation, the AFA is moving forward with this two-match schedule. The friendly against Benin is scheduled for October 6.
A Change of Plans for Benin
The friendly match between Tunisia and Benin, originally scheduled for October 5, has been canceled. That slot could therefore be reallocated for this showdown against the world champions.
But first, the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers
Before turning their attention to Argentina, the Cheetahs have their work cut out for them in September. They will kick off the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Group F with two matches. On matchday one, Benin travel to Ouagadougou on 25 September to take on Burkina Faso’s Étalons. On 29 September, for matchday two, Benin face Mauritania in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
