Antonio Rüdiger back in the Premier League?
Antonio Rüdiger could soon return to Chelsea. As his contract with Real Madrid is set to expire at the end of the season, the German defender is reportedly being monitored by his former London club. The possibility was raised by Football Insider, reviving the prospect of a return to the Premier League.
Chelsea considering a return for Rüdiger
Having left Chelsea in the summer of 2022 to join Real Madrid, Rüdiger could therefore make the journey in the opposite direction. According to Football Insider, the Blues are considering making a move for the 33-year-old, who could become available on a free transfer once his contract with the Spanish club comes to an end.
Chelsea would not be the only London club monitoring the defender’s situation. In mid-October, Football Insider had already reported possible interest from Tottenham, who could try to sign him without a transfer fee next summer. Other reports had also linked Rüdiger with a move to Saudi Arabia after his spell at Real Madrid.
A contract situation to monitor
Having joined Madrid in 2022, the Germany international is reportedly entering the final year of his contract and, according to reports carried by the Spanish press, does not appear to be close to signing an extension. This season, he has scored two goals in six appearances in all competitions, making three starts in La Liga.
A return to Chelsea would represent a new chapter for Rüdiger, who already knows the club and its environment perfectly. It remains to be seen whether the Blues will turn their interest into a concrete move and whether the German defender would be tempted by a reunion with Stamford Bridge.
