Champions League: referee for Villarreal vs PSG appointed
UEFA has already made its decision. The governing body has revealed the name of the referee for Tuesday’s Champions League clash between Villarreal and PSG.
PSG now know the referee who will officiate their trip to Villarreal on the fourth matchday of the Champions League. UEFA has chosen Germany’s Felix Zwayer to take charge of the match.
He will be joined by an entirely German refereeing team: Robert Kempter and Nikolai Kimmeyer on the touchlines, Daniel Schlager as the fourth official, while Christian Dingert will be on VAR, assisted by Robert Schröder.
Good memories for the Parisians
The choice of Felix Zwayer should bring back good memories for PSG supporters. Felix Zwayer has already officiated four PSG matches in the Champions League. The record is positive, with three wins and one draw. The German referee was notably in charge of the victory over Maccabi Haifa (7-2) in 2022, as well as the second leg of the semi-final win against Arsenal (2-1) in 2025. More recently, he officiated the spectacular PSG-Tottenham (5-3) match last November.
The only bad memory in this run was the sending-off of Lucas Hernandez against Spurs, after an elbow on Xavi Simons late in the match. It is, in fact, the only red card Felix Zwaye has shown to a PSG player.
