Barça - Alavés: two surprises in Hansi Flick's squad!
Hansi Flick has called up two young La Masia players to face Alavés, while several key players are missing from the Catalan ranks.
Barcelona's youngsters are making headway. For the visit of Alavés, FC Barcelona have announced a squad of 23 players. This 11th-round La Liga match will kick off at 9 p.m. in Barcelona, or 8 p.m. GMT, at Spotify Camp Nou.
Guillem Víctor and Tunkara called up
The new names are Guillem Víctor and Ebrima Tunkara. The former, a 19-year-old right-back, bolsters a depleted defensive unit. The latter, a midfielder capable of playing as a central midfielder or a playmaker, is just 16 years old. Their call-ups give them a chance to be included on the match sheet, without guaranteeing that they will come on.
The 23 players called up against Alavés
- Goalkeepers: Joan García, Wojciech Szczęsny, Dominik Livaković.
- Defenders: João Cancelo, Alejandro Balde, Pau Cubarsí, Gerard Martín, Àlex Campos, Guillem Víctor.
- Midfielders: Brian Fariñas, Gavi, Fermín López, Pedri, Rodrigo (Rodri), Frenkie de Jong, Marc Bernal, Ebrima Tunkara.
- Forwards: Gabriel Jesus, Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Karim Adeyemi, Anthony Gordon, Hamza Abdelkarim.
Koundé and Dani Olmo among the six absentees
Andreas Christensen, Xavi Espart, Eric Garcia, Jules Koundé, Dani Olmo and Roony Bardghji are unavailable due to injury. Four defenders are therefore missing, limiting Flick's options at the back.
Still top of the table, Barça must respond after their defeat in the Clasico (1-2) against Real Madrid. The Catalans had won their first nine league matches before that defeat.
