CDM 2026 - Algeria: Medhi Lacen takes aim at Vladimir Petkovic

Despite Algeria's dramatic comeback win over Jordan (2-1), Vladimir Petkovic continues to face a barrage of criticism. After Islam Slimani, it's now Medhi Lacen who has questioned the work of the Swiss manager, particularly highlighting the lack of a true playing identity for the Fennecs.

The hard-fought victory against Jordan (2-1) was not enough to silence the critics surrounding Vladimir Petkovic. While Algeria has reignited its hopes of qualifying for the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup, the team's performance still fuels heated debate.

After Islam Slimani, it's now Medhi Lacen's turn to criticize the national coach. The former captain of the Greens was particularly harsh on Winamax TV:

"I completely agree, as for me, the coach is really failing. Over the last 2-3 years, I haven't seen a game plan. What is the team's playing philosophy today? What is the objective? (...) I don't see any of that. I don't understand the direction being taken. And that's what bothers me the most."

However, the Swiss coach will have a chance to silence his critics at the very next outing. Indeed, a win against Austria would secure direct qualification for the Fennecs and could, at least temporarily, ease the tension surrounding the Algerian national team.
