Champions League: Enzo Maresca still cannot get over City's defeat to PSG
This Friday, Enzo Maresca looked back on Manchester City's 4-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League at a press conference.
Enzo Maresca is still struggling to come to terms with Manchester City's 4-2 defeat to PSG in the Champions League two days later. Dominated in the first half, the Sky Blues conceded three goals after the break and found themselves with their backs to the wall against the European champions.
Ahead of the visit of Ipswich Town in the Premier League, Maresca was asked about that performance. In his view, Manchester City deserved better considering their reaction in the second half. “I watched the PSG match again yesterday, very early in the morning, and my feeling remains the same: before conceding the first goal, we had the penalty appeal from Rayan Cherki, Enzo's free kick and the corner that ended up hitting the crossbar… All of that came before they opened the scoring. Then we conceded the first goal, and a minute later, the second. At that point, I think we lost our compactness and our balance. That can happen, especially against what may be the best team in Europe. In two minutes, we found ourselves 0-2 down,” he explained.
Maresca noted one positive
Despite the defeat, Maresca was keen to highlight his players' reaction after the break. For the coach, the second half remains a source of satisfaction. “The second half was fantastic. In the end, I think we deserved better. That's football; we can learn from it. Myself included, particularly from the first half, because some aspects did not work. It is a rewarding learning process, for me as well as for everyone!” he said.
