Champions League: Madrid press erupts in anger after Real Madrid's elimination
Last night, Real Madrid was knocked out by Bayern Munich (1-2, 3-4) in the Champions League quarter-finals. This Thursday, the Madrid press made its anger clear.
Eduardo Camavinga's sending off in the 86th minute, after foolishly and harshly picking up a second yellow card for holding onto the ball after a foul, has sparked huge controversy in Spain. On its front page, Madrid daily Marca set the tone: "What an injustice!"
"Camavinga's harsh sending off breaks the spirit of Los Blancos", the paper added. "A scandalous and unfair decision by referee Vincic, concerning a foolish mistake by Camavinga that could jeopardize his future at Real Madrid, ruined what had been a well-constructed match," Marca continued.
Meanwhile, AS took an even more aggressive stance. "Until the referee decided otherwise," headlined the pro-Real outlet. "Real leaves the Champions League with honor. They led three times in Munich and only gave in when Vincic left them with ten men, handing Camavinga an unbelievable second yellow card," AS argued.
