Club World Cup: Wydad turns down Pedro and B. Mendy

The Moroccan club Wydad is looking to bolster its squad ahead of its participation in the Club World Cup, with the final stage set to take place in the United States starting June 14.

Drawn into Group G, the Casablanca-based club will face off against Manchester City, Juventus FC, and Al Ain FC.

According to the Moroccan Arabic-language newspaper Al Mountakhab, some intermediaries had offered the Moroccan club the chance to sign two former international football stars—Spain’s Pedro and France’s Benjamin Mendy—for the Club World Cup.

This proposal was rejected by the club’s management, who are aiming to recruit competitive players able to contribute to the sporting project in the upcoming season.

Alongside Wydad, Africa will be represented by three other clubs in this international competition: Espérance de Tunis (Tunisia), Al Ahly (Egypt), and Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa).
