CONFIRMED: Mamelodi Sundowns discover FIFA Intercontinental Cup opponents

African champions Mamelodi Sundowns will lock horns with Saudi Pro League giants Al Ahli SC in the next stage of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.

This comes after the Asian champions edged Auckland FC 1-0, thanks to a goal from substitute Saleh Abu Al Shamat in Jeddah on Wednesday night.

Al Ahli, the winners of the AFC Champions League Elite, will square off against Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on 19 September.

The winner of the tie will be crowned the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup champions and progress to the FIFA Challenger Cup.

Notably, the competition will subsequently continue through the FIFA Derby of the Americas, with the victor set to face Sundowns or Al Ahli.

Paris Saint-Germain, the defending champions of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, will only join the prestigious tournament in the final.

The FIFA Derby of Americas, the FIFA Challenger Cup, and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup will take place at a centralised venue yet to be confirmed.

Whether Sundowns will overcome the Saudi side and edge closer to the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final against PSG remains to be seen.
