Marumo Gallants head coach Ronnie Kanalelo rues the missed opportunities in their 1-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout Cup round of 16 on Tuesday night.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa fell to a goal from Siyanda Ndlovu at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, with the Brazilians keeping them at bay for the remainder of the match, despite not creating clear-cut chances.

Notably, Gallants eliminated Sundowns in the first round of the League Cup last season, reigning supreme via a penalty shootout following a goalless draw after extra time.

When quizzed on what his charges could have done better to pip Miguel Cardoso's men to a spot in the quarter-finals, Kanalelo swiftly pointed to the lack of clinical edge as the main factor for the loss.

“Take the 1v1 and put it in the net. What more do you want me to say? Did I bring them in that position to be able to score? The answer is yes,” said the Gallants boss.

"How many times were we in the box in the first half? Look at [Ndabayithethwa] Ndlondlo's opportunity, I think we could have done better with [Seketso] Moremi's opportunity, 1v1 with the goalkeeper, we could have done better there.

"You're not going to get a lot of those type of opportunities against a strong opposition like Sundowns, but when you get those you have to take them, nothing more, nothing less.

"If you ask me what is it we could have done better it's to put the ball in the net, that's it, simple as that. There's nothing else I can tell you. Did you see the 1v1? What must he do?

Gallants will now turn their attention to the Betway Premiership, where they host fellow strugglers Siwelele FC in a bottom-of-the-table affair at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Friday , 30 October.
