Carling Cup exit a blessing in disguise - TS Galaxy coach
Interview
TS Galaxy interim coach Esau Mtsweni say their Carling Knockout Cup round of 16 exit was a blessing in disguise, with the club enduring a woeful run in the Betway Premiership.
The Rockets suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Kaizer Chiefs in the first round of the League Cup at FNB Stadium on Tuesday night, falling to a second half hat-trick from Wandile Duba.
With Galaxy struggling to pick up points in the league, amid a four-game winless run comprising three defeats and a draw, Mtsweni sees a silver lining in the cup elimination as the club will fully focus on steering away from the danger zone.
Galaxy precariously sit in 13th place in the Betway Premiership standings, having amassed six points in eight outings, and have failed to score in their last four matches, while conceding five goals.
“I think the most important thing for us now is the league, maybe this exit was a blessing in disguise to concentrate more on the league because that's what matters for us now,” said Mtsweni.
"I don't want to say this but I think it was a blessing in disguise. Obviously, we came here to win, but after seeing this performance, I think it was good for us to be eliminated so that we can concentrate on the real deal.
"Everyone wants to play a cup, the finals, but you can't play a final while you're not doing well in the league.
The Tim Sukazi-owned club will be looking to snap the winless run when they visit 11th-placed Polokwane City at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, 31 October.
