FIFA: Gianni Infantino threatens a federation president
Prince Ali bin al-Hussein, president of the Jordan Football Association and one of Gianni Infantino’s fiercest opponents. He is threatened with disciplinary sanctions after accusing the FIFA president of using the congress of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), held last week in Tokyo, to further his re-election.
Prince Ali bin al-Hussein even denounced what had become a political gathering on its final day. The official claimed that no one had been allowed to speak, ask questions or address the media. He also referred to acts of coercion, threats and corruption, without publicly presenting evidence to support these accusations.
Ali bin al-Hussein faces serious risks
Recently, the AFC announced that it would refer the Jordanian official’s statements to the competent judicial bodies for review and possible disciplinary action, deeming these accusations serious and unfounded. The case comes as the president of the Asian body, Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim al-Khalifa, has backed Infantino’s candidacy for a new term, with the deadline for submitting candidacies set for November 18.
