When asked about his international achievements, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner highlighted his triumphs with Portugal and made sure to emphasize the significance of their 2016 European Championship title:

I have won three titles for Portugal. Before Cristiano, Portugal had never won a single title in its history. I won Euro 2016, which for me is the equivalent of winning a World Cup.
