Yoane Wissa continues to climb the rankings of the top scorers for the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Congolese striker scored his second goal in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers against Zimbabwe on Monday, September 28, in Harare, taking his total to 14 goals for the Leopards.

After scoring against Equatorial Guinea on the opening matchday, Wissa found the net again against Zimbabwe. He took advantage of a poor reading of the situation by the Zimbabwean goalkeeper following a Noah Sadiki shot that was deflected for a corner to give the Leopards the lead.

The goal allowed the Newcastle United striker to reach 14 goals for the Congolese national team. He thus joined Trésor Mputu and Shabani Nonda, who are also credited with 14 goals in the DR Congo's historical statistics.

Before the trip to Harare, Wissa had scored 13 goals for the Leopards. His goal against Equatorial Guinea in the 2-0 victory on September 24 had already helped DR Congo make a strong start to the qualifiers.

Mbokani and Bakambu remain ahead

With 14 goals, Wissa has therefore joined Mputu and Nonda in third place in the DR Congo's all-time scoring charts. The top two remain Dieumerci Mbokani, who has scored 22 goals, and Cédric Bakambu, who has 21, according to RSSSF statistics.

Wissa's rise is all the more rapid because he still has several years ahead of him with the national team. His tally increased particularly spectacularly in 2026.

Three goals at the 2026 World Cup

Wissa scored three times at the 2026 World Cup. He first scored DR Congo's goal in the 1-1 draw against Portugal, becoming the first Congolese goalscorer in World Cup history.

He then scored twice against Uzbekistan in the Leopards' 3-1 victory. He converted a penalty before scoring for a second time in stoppage time.

With these three goals at the World Cup and his two goals in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, Wissa has already scored five goals for DR Congo in 2026.

His latest goal in Harare primarily allows him to join the group of players who have scored 14 times for the Leopards. One more goal would now be enough for him to move clear of Mputu and Nonda in the rankings.
