Eight Premier League clubs break their transfer records this summer

Premier League clubs continue to set the transfer market alight with record-breaking signings this summer.

Among the teams set to compete in England’s top flight this season, eight have already landed their marquee signing by smashing their own transfer records. More could follow before the window slams shut. Let’s take a closer look at these eight headline transfers.

Chelsea – Morgan Rogers: €138m

By signing for Chelsea from Aston Villa for a staggering €138 million, Morgan Rogers has become the most expensive signing in the London club’s history.

Before him, the Blues spent €121 million to bring in Enzo Fernandez from Benfica in 2022-23, €116 million for Moisés Caicedo from Brighton in 2023-24, and €113 million for Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan in 2021-22.

Manchester City – Elliot Anderson: €135m

Elliot Anderson is now the priciest player to ever sign for Manchester City. Previously, the record belonged to Jack Grealish, who arrived from Aston Villa in 2021-22 for an eye-watering €117.5 million.

That figure dwarfs the €90m spent on Josko Gvardiol in 2023-24, €76m for Kevin De Bruyne in 2015-16, or even €75m for Omar Marmoush in 2024-25.

Tottenham – Sandro Tonali: €108m

Spurs have also smashed their transfer record this summer, shelling out €108 million to convince Newcastle to part ways with Sandro Tonali.

The club also signed Mateus Fernandes for €99 million, which is well above previous outlays for the likes of Xavi Simons (€65m in 2025-26), Dominic Solanke (€64.3m in 2024-25), and Mohammed Kudus (€63.8m in 2025-26).

Aston Villa – Johan Manzambi: €60m

After selling Morgan Rogers to Chelsea, Aston Villa was able to finance the arrival of Johan Mazambi, the breakout star of the 2026 World Cup with Switzerland.
The former Freiburg player thus becomes the most expensive signing in Villa Park history.

Other Premier League sides have also smashed their own transfer ceilings: Brighton signed Luka Vušković for €54m, Wolverhampton brought in Ivorian midfielder Ibrahim Sangaré for €48m, Ipswich Town splashed out €28m on Emersonn, while Burnley paid €26m for Rushworth.
