Manchester City – Bournemouth: the Citizens caught off guard at halftime (0-1)
Manchester City control possession but fail to dictate the tempo, heading into the break behind a clinical Bournemouth side.
Just like Manchester United the day before, Manchester City are stunned by a newly promoted team in their Premier League opener. At halftime, Enzo Maresca’s men find themselves 1-0 down at the Etihad Stadium against a perfectly organized Bournemouth side.
Tavernier punishes City’s lack of cutting edge
The Citizens started the match with plenty of intensity. After a superb cross from Nico O’Reilly, Erling Haaland darted between three defenders, but the Norwegian couldn’t adjust his body and the ball bounced off his chest—a huge opportunity squandered by last season’s top scorer.

Bournemouth, on the other hand, were far more clinical. In the 26th minute, Evanilson was picked out on the right flank and delivered a low cross to the far post. Marcus Tavernier finished with his left foot, giving Gianluigi Donnarumma no chance.
City continued to dominate possession but rarely troubled the Cherries, aside from a few bursts from Phil Foden and Antoine Semenyo. Bournemouth, who already frustrated the Mancunians last season, nearly doubled their lead, but Donnarumma made a crucial save. Enzo Maresca will need to make swift adjustments to avoid a disappointing start.
