Ivory Coast: Nicolas Pépé already ruled out for Elephants’ international return
After his strong performances at the 2026 World Cup with Ivory Coast, Nicolas Pépé looks set to miss the Elephants’ first international gathering.
Nicolas Pépé is not expected to be called up for the Ivory Coast Elephants’ international fixtures in September-October. At least, that’s according to journalist Malick Traoré. The player reportedly isn’t part of new head coach Hervé Renard’s plans.
Since the French tactician’s return to the Ivorian bench, there has been no contact between the two men—contrary to previous reports.
Nicolas Pépé, the problems just keep coming
As a reminder, during Emerse Faé’s tenure, Nicolas Pépé was already dropped last December on the eve of the 2025 AFCON following a joke at the expense of host nation Morocco. In an interview with Franco-Algerian influencer Just Riadh, the left-footer poked fun at the Atlas Lions’ modest trophy haul and their last title dating back to 1976.
