England: Anthony Gordon issues an appeal to the Three Lions

Two days before the Nations League match between England and Spain, Anthony Gordon called on the English to embrace their footballing identity.

Having joined FC Barcelona this summer, Anthony Gordon believes the Three Lions should not try to imitate the Spanish. "As a nation, we don't have the strength that the Spanish have to control games the way they do. It's not in our DNA. I don't know if it's something that can be learned, because now that I'm playing in Spain, I can speak about it with first-hand knowledge: the way they keep the ball is different. So, I'm not sure that we could ever have exactly that," said the former Newcastle player.

"Because I'm playing in Spain now, I know that we have players who are just as good. But they have different qualities. So why try to make them the same players as the Spanish? Spanish players don't have some of the qualities we have, and vice versa. I don't want to get too far ahead of myself, because I'm not the manager, but I think we need to stop looking elsewhere and be proud of who we are and the qualities we have," he added.
