England: Chelsea have not kept a clean sheet since January

Chelsea are going through a difficult period defensively in the Premier League. After their 3-0 defeat by Brentford this Friday, September 18, the London club’s run of consecutive matches without a clean sheet in the English league has reached 21.

The last time Chelsea finished a Premier League match without conceding a goal was on January 17, 2026, in a 2-0 win over Brentford. Since then, the Blues have conceded at least one goal in every league match.

Five matches, at least two goals conceded each time

The start of the Xabi Alonso era has also been marked by these defensive difficulties. The Spanish coach has seen his team concede at least two goals in each of his first five Premier League matches.

Chelsea conceded two goals against Fulham, three against Brighton, two against Arsenal, two against Hull City and three at Brentford this Friday.

According to the reported statistic, he is the sixth coach to see his team concede at least two goals in each of his first five matches in the competition, after Mick McCarthy, Sammy Lee, Terry Connor, Slaviša Jokanović and Scott Parker.

At Brentford, Chelsea once again paid the price for their defensive difficulties and left without a point, having conceded three goals and scored none.
