FIFA: After the FIFA Forward Enterprise crisis, Gianni Infantino regains the support of the Management Board

Around the table were FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Secretary General Mattias Grafström, and several members of the Management Board. At the end of the discussions, the board members reaffirmed their support for the Italian-Swiss leader, describing him as "the only official elected by FIFA’s 211 member associations."

The FFE project withdrawn after acknowledged mistakes

This meeting comes just days after the withdrawal of a project that had raised many questions throughout the football world. The FIFA Forward Enterprise was designed to explore new commercial opportunities for the organization, but the way it was introduced drew criticism regarding transparency and the involvement of member federations.

In response to the backlash, FIFA acknowledged shortcomings. In its statement, the body admitted that the FIFA Council and the member associations "had no intention of being excluded from the process" and that the approach should have been handled differently.

FIFA also announced that an investigation will be carried out to analyze the circumstances that led to this situation. A report will then be presented to the FIFA Council at its next meeting.

Infantino determined to stay the course

Despite this turbulent spell, Gianni Infantino remains determined to continue his project at the helm of FIFA. The president has renewed his backing for the Secretary General and FIFA’s administration, praising their roles in implementing his vision.

The leadership now insists it wants to improve communication and interactions between the presidency, the general secretariat, and the Council in order to boost the effectiveness of decision-making.

This episode comes at a pivotal moment for Gianni Infantino, who is looking to cement his legacy after years marked by the expansion of international competitions, notably the enlargement of the men’s World Cup to 48 teams in 2026.

While the leadership presented a united front in Rabat, this crisis has underscored the importance of transparency in managing an institution that represents more than 200 federations worldwide.

FIFA now intends to focus on its upcoming major events and continue the development of football through its FIFA Forward program, dedicated to funding projects for federations, confederations, and regional bodies.
