FIFA: Gianni Infantino calls for Donald Trump's help

With his position weakened by the ongoing revolt shaking FIFA, Gianni Infantino is now seeking support from Donald Trump's administration.

According to reports from the New York Post and the BBC, the FIFA president is set to meet with several top U.S. officials in hopes of securing public backing. Both media outlets indicate that Infantino is particularly keen to persuade Secretary of State Marco Rubio to lend him his support.

In recent days, several football federations have already announced they will not back Gianni Infantino's re-election as FIFA president next March. The Welsh FA has already made the decision to part ways with the FIFA chief, while England is preparing to formalize the split as well.

"We love football, it's our life, and now we're being painted as the killers of football because of one person," said a FIFA employee in the past few hours, just back in Europe after several weeks in the United States. While acknowledging that "several incidents" during the 2026 World Cup may have "shocked" the public, he believes FIFA "managed to limit the damage."

According to this staffer, the commercial company episode "was the final straw." Decisions made unilaterally by Gianni Infantino have been very poorly received by several employees contacted. "He makes us ashamed, and I say this bluntly—it's total disgrace," added this employee, who works at FIFA headquarters in Zurich.
