FIFA: Luís Figo calls for Gianni Infantino to step down
Luís Figo has now joined the growing list of football icons openly demanding Gianni Infantino’s departure.
In a statement released this Wednesday, the Portuguese legend left no room for doubt, urging the FIFA president to immediately vacate his position. "Today, I join others from across our football community in calling for Gianni Infantino to resign as FIFA president. Infantino has diminished the office he once promised to elevate. He has lied, deceived, and sought to serve his own interests at the expense of the game he is supposed to protect." he declared.
The former Ballon d'Or winner believes the FIFA chief no longer enjoys the trust of the football world. "He has lost the support of his senior staff, his closest advisers, the vast majority of people who dedicate their lives to this sport, and even, it seems, the winner of the FIFA Sport for Peace Award. It’s too late to salvage his dignity, but it’s not too late to save football. He should go. Now." he added.
Beyond these football greats, several national federations and confederations have also already demanded Gianni Infantino’s resignation from his role as FIFA president.
