FIFA has already succeeded in winning over Mexico with its plan to create a commercial company.

While CONCACAF—the confederation to which the Mexican federation belongs—has officially taken a stand against FIFA's audacious project, El Tri has made it clear that it does not oppose the creation of a commercial entity. This would allow the global governing body to sell shares of the World Cups it organizes.

"On July 28, 2026, the FMF was notified by FIFA of President Gianni Infantino's proposal to increase revenue for the FIFA Forward program—the main mechanism aimed at developing football worldwide—through a new financial model. In this communication, FIFA stated that, to help federations make an informed decision regarding their participation in this mechanism, it would establish working groups to provide further information and documentation about the new model. In this regard, the FMF will finalize its study and analysis to make the decision most beneficial for the development of Mexican football," the Mexican federation said in a statement.

This Friday, FIFA remained firm in its decision to push forward with the project.
