FIFA: The EFC could take action in September against Gianni Infantino

In just a month, European football will experience one of its most significant institutional gatherings: the EFC General Assembly. This major event will be hosted in Copenhagen from September 28 to 30.

Representing over 800 European clubs, the organization describes the gathering as “the biggest event of the season for European clubs.” It’s a crucial moment where “leaders debate the game’s biggest challenges, set shared priorities, and chart the future direction.”

The EFC also emphasizes that this is “the only time in the season when clubs of all sizes come together to influence the future of the game,” especially as FIFA’s governance and the crisis sparked by Gianni Infantino are expected to be at the heart of the discussions.

While the EFC has already publicly opposed the FIFA Forward Enterprise project, this assembly is shaping up to be another major flashpoint for European dissent. The General Assembly could therefore have far-reaching consequences, well beyond those of a typical annual meeting.

The EFC reiterates that it is “a major occasion on the football calendar,” where “new partnerships are forged, innovative ideas are exchanged, and football-driven solutions are developed to tackle the challenges facing the game.” Just months before the FIFA presidential election, a united front of over 800 European clubs could send a particularly powerful message to Gianni Infantino.
