Florian Wirtz: Liverpool already preparing for a possible departure
Could Florian Wirtz already leave Liverpool? The question is beginning to circulate in England and Spain, as the German attacking midfielder continues to struggle to fully live up to expectations since his arrival at Anfield. According to TEAMtalk, the Reds have already identified a potential alternative should his situation change.
Liverpool keeping an eye on Rayan Cherki
According to reports, Liverpool are closely monitoring Rayan Cherki, who is currently at Manchester City. The Frenchman was already on the Reds’ radar when he was still playing for Olympique Lyonnais. Liverpool ultimately failed to sign him, and the player joined Manchester City.
However, the situation could change in the coming months. Cherki is reportedly among the City players attracting interest from several major European clubs, and Liverpool are therefore monitoring his situation.
Florian Wirtz under pressure
Arriving from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2025 for a fee that could reach around €125 million, the Germany international was signed to become one of Liverpool’s main creators. His adaptation to the Premier League, however, remains a topic of discussion.
After a first season that ended with seven goals and eight assists in all competitions, Florian Wirtz still needs to take another step to establish himself as an indispensable player. His start to the 2026-2027 season has also fuelled criticism, although manager Andoni Iraola continues to show his faith in him and defend his influence on the team’s collective play.
