Midfielder Manu Koné was deeply affected after Les Bleus' elimination against Spain (0-2) in the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup.

A week later, the player spoke out on Instagram. "We didn't accomplish the mission... Days go by but it still hurts. Seeing the disappointment in your eyes breaks my heart. But I will be forever grateful to have played in my first World Cup and to have represented France," he wrote.

He added a promise: "I also believe that 'thank you' is not a strong enough word for the coach, the staff, and everyone who worked behind the scenes to put us in the best possible conditions. We wanted to give you the best gift for your departure. We also wanted to throw a huge celebration for all the supporters of Les Bleus, but that's how it is. With pride, with faith, and with your support, we will bounce back."
