Serhou Guirassy is still dreaming of lifting a major trophy. Despite an impressive individual career, the Guinean striker is still waiting for collective recognition. That dream could become reality this weekend at the German Supercup.

The traditional curtain-raiser of German football takes place this Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 18:30 GMT at Signal Iduna Park. Borussia Dortmund faces Bayern Munich for the German Supercup title.

After Bayern Munich clinched the league and cup double in the 2025-26 season, BVB Dortmund, as runners-up, earned the right to play in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup, newly renamed in honor of the late Kaiser.

Only one Bundesliga 2 title

Since arriving in Dortmund from Stuttgart in 2024, Serhou Guirassy has established himself as one of the top scorers in the Bundesliga. He has tallied 60 goals and 15 assists in 96 appearances for the Black and Yellows.

However, he has never lifted a top-tier trophy in his career, even though he was the top scorer in the 2024-25 Champions League with 13 goals and the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup with 4 goals.

The only title won by the Syli National's star striker (28 caps, 11 goals) is the Bundesliga 2 with FC Cologne in 2018-19. He finished as Bundesliga runner-up twice: with Stuttgart in 2023-24 and with Dortmund in 2025-26.

Dortmund chasing a 7th Supercup crown

Taking on their eternal rivals, Borussia Dortmund are aiming for a seventh German Supercup triumph after victories in 1989, 1995, 1996, 2013, 2014, and 2019. The goal is to close the gap on Bayern's record haul of 11 titles.

The German side wants to kick off the new season with silverware and boost morale ahead of the campaign. To do that, they must avoid a seventh defeat in the competition after falling short in 2011, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2020, and 2021.
