Guirassy, Maza... Top five Africans to watch in Germany this season
German football fans will have to wait a little longer for the start of the new season. While the German Supercup between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund is on the menu this weekend, the Bundesliga won’t kick off until August 28.
Several African players will be taking center stage in the Bundesliga this season. Here are the ones to watch most closely.
Serhou Guirassy – Dortmund
The Guinean striker remains one of the most lethal African forwards, having netted 17 goals in the Bundesliga and 4 in the Champions League during the 2025-26 season.
Having missed both AFCON 2025 and the 2026 World Cup, he took full advantage of his vacation to recharge his batteries in anticipation of another prolific campaign.

Ibrahim Maza – Bayer Leverkusen
The Algerian midfielder featured in 28 Bundesliga matches for Bayer Leverkusen, starting 20 of them, and logged a total of 1,852 minutes on the pitch in 2025-26. He scored three goals and provided four assists.
After appearing in all four of Algeria’s matches at the 2026 World Cup, Maza kicked off preseason with his club by scoring against Newcastle in their final friendly.
Bayer Leverkusen now expects even more from a player who has already established himself as a proven Bundesliga talent heading into the new season.

Ismaël Saibari – Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich splashed out €50 million to bring him in, and he arrives with the weighty status of a top player looking to make his mark on German soil.
The Moroccan international (35 caps, 12 goals) left a lasting legacy at PSV Eindhoven, where he racked up 42 goals and 29 assists in 142 matches since 2022.

Bilal El Khannouss – Stuttgart
Another Moroccan, renowned for his agility and dazzling dribbling skills, has just made a permanent move to the Bundesliga this summer: Bilal El Khannouss.
Signed by Stuttgart for €15 million after a loan spell, the 22-year-old attacking midfielder lit up German pitches last season, scoring 9 goals and providing 9 assists in 41 appearances during the 2025-26 campaign.

Christian Kofane – Leverkusen
The Cameroonian international (6 caps, 2 goals) has been touted as a future star since he arrived at Leverkusen from Albacete in July 2025.
In his debut season in Germany, he posted an impressive record of 7 goals and 9 assists in 44 matches. What he still needs is consistency to become one of the Bundesliga’s top scorers.
