Salah, Osimhen… Top five Africans to watch in the Süper Lig this season
The 2026-27 season kicked off last weekend in Turkey with the opening round of Süper Lig action. It was a steady start for the league’s African stars.
Here are the five African players to follow this season in the Turkish top flight:
Mohamed Salah – Trabzonspor
The biggest signing of the Turkish transfer window. After his departure from Liverpool, Trabzonspor secured the services of Salah, who has already made his debut on matchday one against Kasimpaşa.
The Egyptian winger came on as a substitute in the second half against Kasimpasa (1-1) in the league, before playing the full match against Ferencvárosi (0-1) in the Europa League qualifiers.
Trabzonspor hasn’t just signed the player but also his global reputation, which will benefit the club especially in terms of merchandising and more.

Victor Osimhen – Galatasaray
The Nigerian striker remains Galatasaray’s offensive reference point, having already netted 61 goals in 75 matches over his first two seasons in Turkey.
The Super Eagles star (52 caps, 35 goals) made an immediate impact in Galatasaray’s league opener, bagging a brace against Corum FK (2-2).

Paul Onuachu – Trabzonspor
The perfect complement to Salah. The towering Nigerian centre-forward finished as co-top scorer in the Süper Lig last season, notching 22 goals and 2 assists in 30 appearances.
Although he’s yet to score in his first two outings this season, the Nigerian—who boasts 5 goals in 34 international caps—remains a lethal weapon for his side.

Wilfred Ndidi – Besiktas
The defensive midfielder brings experience, power, and work rate. He remains one of the most influential African internationals in the Turkish league.
The former Leicester midfielder has been at Beşiktaş since 2025, making 35 appearances with 2 goals and 2 assists to his name.

Kassoum Ouattara - Besiktas
After three seasons with Monaco, the 21-year-old left-back signed for Besiktas in a €10 million deal (including bonuses).
His potential and athletic qualities make him a must-watch African talent this season, donning the shirt of last season’s fourth-place Süper Lig finishers.
