Leverkusen: Edmond Tapsoba proud to take on the captain's armband
Appointed as captain of Bayer Leverkusen, Edmond Tapsoba wanted to share his feelings. In a message posted on his social networks after the announcement, the 27-year-old Burkinabe reflected on his journey with the club.
"From my first day at Leverkusen until today, this club has become much more than just a place to play football for me," he wrote.
Today, wearing the captain's armband is a special honor and a responsibility that I am incredibly proud to take on.
Gratitude and ambition
Edmond Tapsoba also expressed his gratitude for the journey since arriving in January 2020—six and a half seasons. He keeps future goals in mind. "Grateful for the path taken so far. And just as determined for everything that still awaits us. A new chapter. The same commitment. The same ambition. Forza Bayer."
A symbol in a period of transition
The appointment comes as Bayer Leverkusen has lost several key players in recent months. With over 250 appearances in Bayer colors and a contract extension through 2031, Tapsoba has established himself as one of the faces of the project. Rock-solid at the back, composed in the build-up, and now scoring goals, he is stepping into a new dimension. The armband confirms the club's trust and cements his leadership role for the new Bundesliga season.
