Bayern: Manuel Neuer out against Leipzig
Bayern Munich will once again have to make do without Manuel Neuer. Troubled by foot pain, the 40-year-old goalkeeper will miss the Bundesliga fixture against RB Leipzig after already being absent for the Champions League match against Viking Stavanger.
Jonas Urbig starts again
According to Bild, Neuer did not take part in Bayern's final training session before hosting Leipzig. His absence should therefore benefit Jonas Urbig, his 23-year-old replacement, who will return to the starting XI.
The young goalkeeper could be given further opportunities this season, as Bayern are also looking to prepare for the succession of their long-serving goalkeeper. This latest start represents an important opportunity for Urbig to show that he can meet the demands of the highest level.
Kompany remains reassuring
At a press conference on Friday, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany indicated that Neuer's physical problem should not keep him out for a long period. The Belgian coach hopes to have his goalkeeper back as early as next week. Bayern are notably due to host Arsenal on Wednesday in the Champions League, an important fixture in their European schedule.
Neuer's absence comes at a time when Bayern must string together matches in the league and on the European stage. The staff will therefore have to monitor the progress of his physical condition while maintaining the team's competitiveness.
