Bayern Munich provides reassuring update on Vincent Kompany
The news concerning Vincent Kompany is reassuring. After suffering a medical emergency and being taken to hospital, the Bayern Munich coach is in stable condition. However, the club’s sporting director, Max Eberl, specified that further tests were necessary to determine the cause of the incident.
Max Eberl provides reassuring update
Last week, Kompany had been affected by a virus, raising questions about his presence for the Champions League match against Arsenal, which ended in a 2-2 draw. The Belgian coach ultimately attended the match.
According to reports in the press, he then suffered a medical emergency while at the training centre, during a session with the reserve team. Max Eberl confirmed that he had spoken with the coach as well as his wife. “The good news is that his condition is stable. I spoke to him yesterday evening, as well as to his wife,” the Bayern official explained.
“Health is the most important thing”
The sporting director also indicated that Kompany was expected to remain in hospital for a few days, while tests were carried out to better understand what had happened.
It was not a pleasant moment for any of us. He collapsed on the pitch yesterday and must remain in hospital for a few more days, until everything has been examined and confirmed. It once again shows that health is the most important thing in life, not football.
Eberl stressed that the coach should only return once he had fully recovered. “The most important thing is that the cause is identified and that he recovers,” he added, while wishing the coach a speedy recovery. Bayern are due to face Freiburg in the league on Sunday. Kompany’s presence on the bench will depend on how his health develops and on the medical conclusions. Bayern sit top of the Bundesliga after six matchdays, with 14 points and no defeats.
