Liverpool considering keeping Ronald Araújo
Ronald Araújo could continue his career at Liverpool beyond the current season. Loaned from FC Barcelona during the last summer transfer window, the Uruguayan defender has reportedly convinced the Reds’ management with his early performances. According to Marca, the English club would be willing to consider a permanent transfer if the player continues in the same vein.
Araújo adapts to Liverpool
Having joined Barça in 2018, Araújo gradually became increasingly important within the Catalan defence. Last season, he made 38 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals. At 27, the Uruguay international brings versatility to Liverpool, as he can play both in central defence and on the right side of the back line.
Since his arrival in England, his performances have reportedly strengthened the club’s interest in a long-term partnership. He has scored two goals and provided one assist in eleven appearances in all competitions.
A purchase option estimated at €55 million
Araújo’s loan would reportedly include a purchase option valued at around €55 million, or nearly £47 million. This clause would allow Liverpool to negotiate his retention without having to start discussions with Barcelona from scratch. The English club would not, however, be in a hurry to make a final decision. The defender’s performances and the squad’s needs as the season progresses should influence the final choice.
Under contract with FC Barcelona until 2031, Araújo remains tied to the Catalan club despite his loan spell. For Liverpool, the objective would be to ensure that his current performances can be sustained over time before considering a significant investment. The defender will therefore have to continue convincing on the pitch if he wants to extend his Reds adventure.
