Barcelona: Hansi Flick confirms two absences for El Clasico
Interview
Barcelona will have to cope with several absences for El Clasico. On the eve of their clash with Real Madrid, Hansi Flick confirmed that Jules Koundé and Dani Olmo would not be available. A blow for the German coach, who had hoped to count on a more complete squad for this major La Liga fixture.
Koundé will take no risks
Having suffered an injury to his left ankle, Jules Koundé will not have recovered sufficiently to take part in the match. The French defender, who has played for Barça since the summer of 2022, is forced to withdraw after trying to return in time.
At his press conference, Hansi Flick explained that he did not want to take any risks with his player. “Koundé will not play. We do not want to take any risks. This is not the best time, but we have to accept it,” the Barcelona coach said.
Dani Olmo also absent
Barça will also have to do without Dani Olmo, who was injured during the Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain. The attacking midfielder will miss several matches, according to Flick:
Dani was in a very good spell and was at 100%. He was unlucky with this injury. He is not happy about having to miss several matches, and we will miss him.
After suffering their first defeat of the season in the Champions League against PSG, Barcelona will look to respond against their great rival. The Catalans nevertheless remain unbeaten in the league. El Clasico will be played on Sunday at 9 p.m. Without Koundé and Olmo, Flick will have to find the right solutions to maintain his team’s balance against Real Madrid.
