Arsenal hold their breath over Bukayo Saka!
Withdrawn early against Bayern Munich, Bukayo Saka has Arsenal concerned. A lengthy absence is feared, while Mikel Arteta awaits a precise diagnosis.
Arsenal's European evening left a bitter taste despite the draw secured away to Bayern Munich (2-2) on Wednesday, October 21, in the third matchday of the Champions League. Hit in the quadriceps, Bukayo Saka had to leave his teammates in the tenth minute. He was replaced by Eberechi Eze, who subsequently scored the Gunners' opening goal.
Arsenal: Saka feared to face at least six weeks out
According to BBC Sport, the London club fears an absence of at least six weeks, or even longer. However, the length of his absence has not yet been confirmed: an MRI scan and further medical assessments will be needed to evaluate the injury precisely. The presence of fluid around the affected area is currently complicating the diagnosis.
Speaking to the press on Friday, October 23, Mikel Arteta called for patience until the results of the additional examinations are available. The Spanish coach stressed that his winger's difficulty walking normally and moving without pain were worrying signs. One certainty already exists: Saka will miss Saturday's home game against Everton in the Premier League.
An absence of several weeks could also deprive the Englishman of important fixtures with Arsenal and Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain. The injury comes at a time when his playing time had already required careful management in recent months, particularly because of recurring physical problems.
Bukayo Saka: what has his record been since the start of the season?
At 25, the number 7 remains one of Arsenal's leading attacking players. Since the start of the 2026-2027 season, he has made 11 appearances and scored four goals in all competitions. In the Premier League, his record stands at three goals in seven matches. He also has one goal and one assist in two Champions League matches, before his early departure in Munich.
These statistics illustrate the importance of the England international in the Gunners' attacking play. His potential lengthy absence would force Arteta to redistribute roles on the wings. Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze and young Max Dowman are among the possible solutions. The London staff are now awaiting the medical findings before setting a return timetable.
