Women’s football: FIF begins preparations for the 2026-2027 Division 1 season
The pre-season meeting for the national women’s Division 1 championship was held this Thursday, October 22, 2026, at the headquarters of the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF). The agenda included a review of the past season, the guidelines for the new campaign and preparations for the opening scheduled for October 30 and 31.
Women’s football in Côte d’Ivoire is preparing to open a new chapter. One week before the start of the 2026-2027 season, officials from the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) and the leaders of the clubs competing in Division 1 met this Thursday, October 22, in the conference room of the federation’s headquarters for a pre-season meeting.
Recently appointed head of the Women’s Football Development Commission, Ms Yannick Adou-Bamba took the opportunity to praise the commitment of the club executives. She expressed her appreciation for their efforts to promote and develop women’s football in Côte d’Ivoire.
ASEC Mimosas, the benchmark of the past season
During the meeting, Ms Akpa Lucette De Yed, head of the Women’s Football Department, presented a review of the previous season as well as the main guidelines for the new campaign.
On the sporting front, ASEC Mimosas finished the 2025-2026 season at the top of the championship. The Yellow and Blacks were crowned champions with 70 points after 24 matchdays. They finished ahead of Stella Club, second with 53 points, while Atlético took third place with 51 points. Mouna FC (48 points) and Agir FC (46 points) completed the leading group.
For the new season, two teams are entering the women’s top flight: Yamoussoukro FC and Jeunesse Olympic Club. They join the other teams in a championship organized in a single group of 12 clubs.
Several stadiums selected to host the matches
FIF also unveiled the facilities selected to host matches in this 2026-2027 edition. The games will be played notably at Robert Champroux Stadium, Parc des Sports de Treichville, the National Football Technical Centre in Bingerville, Biaka Boda Stadium in Gagnoa, the stadiums in Yamoussoukro and the regional stadium in Daloa.
Beyond the sporting organization, the Commission intends to continue its efforts to increase the championship’s visibility. As in the previous season, several matches will be broadcast on FIF’s digital platforms, enabling a wider audience to follow the women’s competitions.
As part of this initiative, Ms Yannick Adou-Bamba called on club executives to become more involved in promoting their teams and the championship. She urged them to put on a quality spectacle and rally their supporters around the various matches.
The Super Cup and championship to open the season
Attention is now turning to the first major events of the season. The Women’s Super Cup is scheduled for October 30, 2026, while the championship is due to begin the following day, Saturday, October 31.
Both events will be held at Parc des Sports de Treichville from 3:30 p.m., according to the announced schedule.
Through this pre-season meeting, FIF therefore intends to lay the foundations for a new campaign focused on club mobilization, the quality of the spectacle and greater visibility for women’s football in Côte d’Ivoire.
