Group G remains wide open after Belgium & Iran battled to a tense goalless draw in their recent World Cup clash at SoFi Stadium.

The European giants took control early on attempting to dictate the tempo in the midfield. Kevin De Bruyne pulled the strings,providing high-level technical vision to feed Romelu Lukaku & Leandro Trossard.

Despite their heavy possession, the final product was severely lacking. The attacking rhythm was noticeably disrupted by the sudden absence of dynamic winger Jeremy Doku who was ruled out of the squad just before kickoff due to a respiratory infection.

Beiranvand steals the show

Head coach Amir Ghalenoei executed a masterclass in defensive organization. He set up his Iranian side in a rigid 4-5-1 formation choking the space in the final third while launching rapid counter-attacks through Mehdi Taremi & Mohammad Mohebi.

The undisputed star of the match was veteran goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand. He produced a magical double save in the 59 minute denying Maxim De Cuyper from point-blank range and keeping his team firmly in the fight.

A dramatic turning point

The tension reached a boiling point in the 68th minute. Young Belgian defender Nathan Ngoy made a disastrous back-pass allowing Taremi to sprint clear toward the goal.

Left with no other choice, Ngoy pulled the striker down by the shoulder. The referee instantly produced a straight red card reducing the Red Devils to 10 men and forcing them into survival mode.

Group G chaos

Despite being a man down, the Belgians refused to sit back completely bringing on youngster Fernandez Pardo for De Bruyne.

Iran sensing an opportunity, pushed forward and nearly snatched all three points in the 81st minute. A fierce strike from Saeid Ezatolahi forced a massive save from Thibaut Courtois leaving both sides to settle for a hard-fought draw.
