Harry Kane surprised by Bayern Munich’s demands
Interview
Harry Kane did not expect such high demands upon arriving at Bayern Munich. Signed in the summer of 2023 from Tottenham for around €100 million, the England captain told UEFA that the expectations of the club and its supporters had exceeded what he had imagined.
Pressure that quickly appealed to Kane
After spending many years at Tottenham, Kane discovered an environment where winning is a constant requirement. He knew he would have to score goals and take on the role of the No. 9, but he was surprised by the scale of the expectations:
When I arrived here, I didn’t know what to expect. I had been at Tottenham for so long. Obviously, I knew people would expect goals from me and that I would be the No. 9, but it exceeded my expectations.
Rather than being weighed down by this pressure, the striker says he fully embraced this new dimension of his career:
I loved every minute of it. I loved the expectations, the pressure of being here and the obligation to win every season.
A successful integration and a European objective
Kane also praised the welcome he received in Germany, both from the supporters and those around him. He notably recalled that several German people showed their support for England after the German national team’s elimination from the World Cup mentioned in his interview. On the pitch, the striker quickly established himself as a key player for Bayern. However, he still has one major objective to achieve with the club: winning the Champions League.
Kane believes in his team’s chances, saying that Bayern has shown in recent years that it can pose a threat. Nevertheless, he stresses the need to handle decisive moments better and make the most of the small details that can turn a match.
