Antoine Semenyo’s performance against PSG prompted a particularly fierce outburst from Walid Acherchour after City’s defeat.

Manchester City’s defeat to Paris Saint-Germain (2-4) continues to generate plenty of discussion. Among the players most heavily criticized after that Champions League evening, Antoine Semenyo found himself at the center of a particularly fierce outburst from Walid Acherchour.

The pundit did not mince his words when discussing several of the Ghanaian’s choices, particularly in his passing and his decisions during the opening minutes of the match.

“This guy isn’t a footballer!”

“This guy isn’t a footballer! Seriously. Did you see his decisions? At this point, he’s asking us for psychiatric help! He needs to be locked up! He’s Joan of Arc—he hears voices! He sees people we can’t see.”

Acherchour then focused on a specific incident from the start of the match: “Did you see the first pass he made to Cherki in the fourth minute? But who do you see? Are there thirteen of us? What is this? Are we in training? Are we playing a practice match? This is disastrous.”

The pundit continued in the same vein: “At some point, he makes passes… maybe there’s a ghost there and he’s going to give him the ball! He got a 6 in L’Équipe…”

A difficult evening for Manchester City

Acherchour’s comments came after a match in which City were largely dominated in the first half, conceding three goals before the break. Enzo Maresca’s men responded well after the interval, notably thanks to a brace from Erling Haaland, but Paris preserved their lead to win 4-2.

Semenyo, highly anticipated in Manchester City’s attacking unit, failed to have enough of an impact on the match according to Acherchour, who mainly targeted his decisions on the ball and his lack of precision in important moments.
