Interview
The match between Portugal and the Democratic Republic of Congo (1-1) at the 2026 World Cup continues to spark conversation. After the game, Congolese midfielder Ngal’ayel Mukau made some noteworthy remarks about Cristiano Ronaldo.
Portugal took the lead as early as the 6th minute through João Neves, but the Leopards responded before halftime with Yoane Wissa netting an all-important equalizer. Asked about Ronaldo's presence, Mukau explained that his team hadn’t devised any particular plan to contain the Portuguese striker:
To be honest, we didn’t have a special plan for Ronaldo. We know he isn’t the same as before. He’s a bit older now.
However, the DR Congo player was quick to add a note of respect for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
He remains one of the greatest players in football history. We have immense respect for him.
Statements like these are sure to spark a reaction among Cristiano Ronaldo’s fans.
