USM Alger officially announced, late Tuesday night into Wednesday, that they have parted company with their Brazilian coach, Marcos Paquetá.

This decision comes on the heels of the team’s disappointing results in the Algerian Ligue 1.

The club’s management expressed, via its official Facebook page, its gratitude to Paquetá, who was appointed only two months ago, in a message of thanks:

"USM Alger's management would like to thank coach Paquetá and his staff for their efforts during their time at the helm of the team. We wish them the best of luck in their future careers."

USM Alger spokesperson explains the reasons behind Paquetá’s departure

In a statement, club spokesperson Tarek Hadj Adlane detailed the reasons for the dismissal: "We provided coach Paquetá with the best possible conditions, but unfortunately, the results fell short of our expectations. Nevertheless, we wish him every success in his future endeavors."

He added: "The cup final against Jeunesse de Belouizdad, a rival we know well, will be the team’s main objective. We’ll do everything we can to secure that title."

The spokesperson also mentioned that the interim technical staff will consist of three members: Sofiane Ben Khalifa, youth teams’ sporting director, Elias Ben Haja, goalkeeping coach, and Belaid Mejahd, fitness coach. After the league break, the club will search for a new head coach to finish out the season.

Finally, Tarek Hadj Adlane concluded: "We are fully aware of our responsibility to the club. We all share responsibility for the current situation and hope things will improve. In the toughest moments, our supporters have always stood by us, and now more than ever, we need their support."
