Having arrived at PSG this summer, Ferran Torres made a lasting impression after his first match with the reigning European champions. The Spaniard was overjoyed.

It was a Ligue 1 debut to remember. Coming on at halftime, Torres netted a brilliant brace to help Paris Saint-Germain snatch a 2-2 draw against Rennes this Sunday, wrapping up the opening matchday. With this performance, Ferran Torres wrote his name into the club's history books: he's only the third PSG player ever to score twice in his very first match, following in the footsteps of Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic (August 12, 2012 against Lorient, 2-2) and Cameroon’s Patrick Mboma (August 24, 1994, Champions League qualifying return leg against Vac FC, HON, 2-1).

"It was a really tough match, and we're not totally satisfied with our performance because we wanted to win. We knew it wouldn't be easy here. Sometimes, when you can't win, you have to know how not to lose. (…) I'm feeling great here. Before coming, I was told this is a fantastic group, and I've truly discovered some wonderful people and incredible players. It's amazing to play alongside them," reacted the former Barcelona man.

Luis Enrique pleased for the 2026 world champion

Ferran Torres’ impressive debut also earned praise from his coach, Luis Enrique. "Not bad, huh? He scored two goals. That’s very positive for him, and we’re really happy. But when we sign players, we’re not just interested in what they do over one or ten games. We sign them to go on a long journey together," explained the Spanish manager at the press conference.
