Paris Saint-Germain has announced the loan of its French-Ivorian defender Yoram Zague to Paphos FC. This move promises to be a win-win for the young player, as game time is far more valuable than prestige at this stage of his career.

The two-time European champions shared the news on their social networks: “Trained at Paris Saint-Germain, Yoram Zague joins Paphos FC on loan, with a purchase option, until the end of the 2026-2027 season. Aged 20, the defender will continue his development with the Cypriot club,” the statement reads on X.

Who is Yoram Zague?

Born May 15, 2000, the 20-year-old right-back is a product of the PSG youth academy. He played for the U17 and U19 teams before signing his first professional contract in 2024.

Although he has played only 11 matches with PSG's first team, he enjoyed two loan spells: six months at Copenhagen in Denmark (2 goals, 1 assist in 15 matches) and at Eupen in Belgium (2 goals, 1 assist in 8 matches).

A loan to learn

Staying at PSG would make it nearly impossible for Zague to get minutes due to his lack of experience and the presence of Achraf Hakimi, who is untouchable in the right-back position. Even when the Moroccan is unavailable, Luis Enrique often prefers to shift other players to the right, like Marquinhos or Warren Zaïre-Emery.

By joining Paphos FC—a club that played in the Champions League last season and is currently contesting the Europa Conference League play-offs—the Paris-born defender can compete in a league with less pressure and more opportunities to play and improve, before returning to PSG even stronger. His contract runs until June 2028.

Impressive stats

In 48 appearances with PSG's U19 team, he scored 8 goals and provided 13 assists.

He also featured in 11 matches in the UEFA Youth League, scoring once and delivering two assists.

In total, he has played 94 matches across all competitions, tallying 14 goals and 17 assists.
