Spain – Netherlands, La Roja's only World Cup final (Video)
Before facing Argentina this Sunday in the 2026 World Cup final, Spain has played in just one final in its history. Let's look back at that match in video.
The 2010 World Cup final was La Roja's very first. It ended with a victory (1-0 AET) on July 11, 2010, at Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa.
This final became infamous for its aggressive play. Players from both sides showed an excess of commitment, forcing the referee, Howard Webb, to brandish 14 yellow cards (9 for the Netherlands and 5 for Spain) and a red card for John Heitinga. A sad record for a World Cup final.
With the match seemingly destined for a penalty shootout, Andrés Iniesta rescued Spain by scoring the winning goal in the 116th minute, clinching a historic Euro 2008 and World Cup 2010 double.

Luis de la Fuente's squad now has a chance to repeat that incredible feat, aiming for another double as they enter the 2026 final as reigning European champions.
